1. My failure deals with forces outside of class. I've been getting into the creation of music lately, mostly progressive types of metal, but other melodic genres. Examples include The Contortionist, Volumes, thenightyouleft (yes it's one word), and Saviour. I picked up learning the guitar and drums over a year ago, but I still consider myself a novice and not really great at either. With that said, I'm still learning and progressing at each. School has made it difficult because it's hard to find time to practice when you have friends and family. When I sit down to create something, my creativity seems to be sucked out of me. I understand that I won't be able to create anything technical, but I can play simple things that sound decent (at least to me).
2. What I've learned from this experience is that everything will be ok. It's not an ideal situation, but this failure could be something a lot worse. The good news is after school I will have more time to practice and create music that I love. I will continue to get better and work on my recording and mastering of music as a hobby.
3. Of course, failure is dreadful, but it's apart of life and makes us better. I'm usually really harsh on myself after failure. Lately, I try to not let things bother me anymore emotionally because it's unhealthy. Family and friends get me through the difficult times. This class has shown me it's ok to fail, everyone fails, even the popular entrepreneurs. I have noticed myself taking risks more often than I have ever before. I'm not sure if the class has made me for confident or it's just me growing up.
Hey Christian. Once again great job with this assignment. I also am a fan of metal. I played guitar often for a number of years in my life. I still pick it up every week or so but not enough to be amazing. Due to school and work I hardly have anytime for practicing. So great job keeping with it, I know it can be tough! I also feel the same about failure. Failure sucks but it is the best way to learn!
ReplyDeleteI can relate to this alot man because as you probably already know i make music as well. Failure is a huge part of music and i speak from personal experience. just keep at it man and before you know it youve made insane progress. Keep it up and its definitely tough to find balance between all things that life throws at us. like I just started a full time job and I'm also enrolled in school full time while also trying to build my music brand as well. just dedicate yourself and anything becoems possible. Failure is truley the greatest teacher.
ReplyDeleteHey Christian! I find it really cool that you have taught yourself to play an instrument! I have always wanted to teach myself as well however I lack any natural talent for it. As a result, it comes to me really slowly if at all. I encourage you to not get frustrated with your musician's block as I am sure it is a normal for others to experience. My best advice is to try and find a time and place in which you can relax, and stem the flow of the creative juices! Best of luck with your music!
ReplyDeleteHey whats up Christian, I think it’s really cool how you have been Dealing with failure. Although it can be very discouraging sometimes when it takes a long time to learn something, it seems like you’re handling it in the right way. I can really agree that it is hard sometimes to have a creative mind after working so hard in school throughout the day. Good luck moving forward man!
ReplyDeleteHey Christian, I think you wrote a very solid post. I think friends and family help tremendously in difficult time and it is okay to fail sometimes. It is about how you can bounce back and what you do right after. Everything will be okay and I think that is something good to live by. Overall, great post and good luck with the rest of the semester.
